Unfulfilled promises haunting incumbent councilor

Chikomba-Failure to fulfill promises made during  the March 2022 by-elections may cost Ward 10 incumbent, Councillor Tafadzwa Mukandi in the Saturday Zanu PF primaries.

Mukandi made headlines in March last year when he ambitiously promised residents to build a school in two weeks which contributed to his winning of the by-election, beating Citizens Coalition for Change candidate Amos Reza.

A year later, Mukandi is yet to fulfill his promise and residents are reportedly angry over the empty pledge.

Mukandi is facing a stern challenge from Jotham Mapiye who is promising residents service delivery, water and road maintenance among others.

In an interview with The Midweek Watch, Mukandi said he was nervous  initially but over the days he had gathered confidence and will retain the seat.

He also said despite having failed to fulfill his promise of a secondary school, he has done a lot for the ward.

“At the moment I have gathered my confidence, initially I thought I had lost support. We did a lot in ward 11 within a short period of eight months. The issue of the school is one of the major projects which is work in progress, we are currently mobilizing resources,” said Mukandi.

Mapiye told The Midweek watch that under his leadership service delivery is guaranteed and road maintenance among others will be improved.

“Service delivery is guaranteed under my leadership, we will ensure timeous refuse collection, improve sewer system, availability of electricity and water challenges in ward10 will be a thing of the past,” said Mapiye.

Chivhu is in dire need of a secondary school to complement the only one in the transit town, Liebenberg High School which is heavily congested. Any politician who promises a secondary school in the transit town becomes a darling for the residents.
