MILLICENT HUNGWE
Shabanie Mine FC, fondly known as Chinda Boys has awarded two educational scholarships to deserving disadvantaged children at primary level beginning 2025.
The scholarships are designed to support primary school kids who are passionate about education but struggling financially.
Weston Wesley, Shabanie FC media and liaison officer confirmed the development to The Midweek Watch.
“Our loyal fans, who consistently throng Maglass stadium during match days, will identify the lucky youngsters who always come to support our team to benefit from the scholarship program,” he said.
Shabanie Mine FC has a rich history, founded in 1914 by African Associated Mines (AA Mines) as a social team for employees, under the visionary leadership of the late Khalid Khan, the club evolved into a professional entity.
However, today, the team is transforming into a prominent brand, recognizing soccer as a thriving business.
The scholarships are part of the team’s corporate social responsibility initiatives. “We’re grateful for the support of our benefactors, comprising former players and loyal fans,” said Wesley.
“This gesture demonstrates our commitment to the community that has been our driving force throughout the 2024 season,” he added
He also said that the focus of the club is on underprivileged children and orphans from the community, particularly devoted young fans who consistently support the club.
The initiative is inclusive, embracing all genders, with a special interest in empowering the girl child. To ensure transparency and fairness, Shabanie Mine FC partners with local primary schools and their fan base to identify potential beneficiaries.
A rigorous selection process, involving thorough background checks, is conducted by a panel to verify the eligibility of nominated children.
In addition the team already supports one student at Daramombe High School through their scholarship program.
By investing in education, Shabanie Mine FC is empowering the next generation of leaders and change-makers.
