Masvingo United FC edged Great Zimbabwe University FC 3-1 in a local derby dubbed the Match of the Month played on Sunday afternoon at Mucheke Stadium.

The match attracted football fans from all corners of Masvingo City, with Mucheke Stadium packed to capacity.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Masvingo Province Ezra Chadzamira, Masvingo City Mayor, Cllr Aleck Tabe, Chivi North MP Godfrey Mukungunugwa, ZIFA Masvingo Province chairman Nabiot Magwizi, Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Nqobile Magwizi, Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League chairman Wisdom Simba and representatives from Pacific Storm Cigarette Company.
With the win, Una Una are now tied on 51 points with log leaders FC Hunters, who suffered a 3-0 defeat to Rusitu Tigers FC.

However, FC Hunters remain top due to a superior six goal difference.
In other matches, FC Wangu Mazodze were held to a goalless draw by Tenax Correctional Services FC, while Renco Mine FC suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Buffaloes FC at Chisamba Stadium.
As the league progresses, GZU FC will be hoping to bounce back and escape relegation when they travel to Mutare for a midweek rescheduled match against Tenax CS FC on Wednesday 10 September. They will then face Tongogara United FC at Ratings over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Masvingo United FC will aim to strengthen their title bid with maximum points against bottom placed St Paul’s Musami.
FC Wangu Mazodze are set to host Deportivo La Murambinda at Mucheke Stadium.
