Uhuru celebrations set for Kwekwe

GWERU-This year’s Midlands provincial Independence celebrations will be held in Kwekwe at Mbizo Stadium and preparations are now at an advanced stage, The Midweek Watch has leant.
The national celebrations will be held at Murambinda B Secondary School in Manicaland and is being held under the theme, “Zim@44, Unity, Peace, Development towards vision 2030”.
Kwekwe District Development Coordinator (DDC), Fortune Mupungu told The Midweek Watch that preparations for the celebrations are now at an advanced stage.
“We are happy as Kwekwe district that the provincial event has come at our door step.
“We have managed to have our roads repaired up to Mbizo Stadium, our infrastructure is being spruced up for the big day, including the renovation of our stadium.
“Artists are now lined up to perform on Uhuru day including the likes of Tongai Moyo Junior, Peter Moyo and various local artists.
“The event will be spiced by a soccer match pitting FC Wangu Mazodze against Kwekwe United FC.
“It is going to be a big day for the province as our Honorable Minister of State, Cde Owen Ncube will grace the occasion as the guest of honor.
“Our famers locally are set to benefit as we will buy food from them to feed the multitudes of people who will grace the occassion,” Mupungu added.
Kwekwe Mayor, Albert Zinhanga said Kwekwe was ready to host the historic day.
“We are ready for the Independence celebrations and we are going to be working tirelessly to make the event a success and a memorable one,” he said.
Gweru resident, Munoda Changwara of Woodlands Phase 2 said, the idea of decentralizing national events was good and welcome as it opens ways for development to all areas.
“It’s a good idea, for national and provincial events as this help decentralize the government operations and events to the grassroots. This also help in the improvement of infrastructure in in the hosting areas. So, these facilities can be upgraded,” said Changwara.
Another resident, Givemore Mwale of Mbizo said he was happy to witness his first ever independence celebrations in the city of gold.
