The event which drew together women from all walks of life, was a testament to TSURO Trust’s commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women through innovation.

By leveraging the universal language of sports, TSURO Trust aims to inspire and motivate women to take control of their lives, challenge societal norms and strive for excellence. The celebration featured a series of thrilling sports competitions including soccer, netball and volleyball which showcased the talents and determination of the participating women. The events were designed to promote teamwork, camaraderie and healthy living, while also providing a platform for women to share their experiences, challenges and triumphs.

“This is a nature plus project that focuses on what we have in our environment and use for our sustainability in our lives. We have conservation agriculture, holistic land and life management. With all these activities taking place it is because of family and that is where gender comes into place. Everybody should be assimilated into Nature Plus regardless of gender. We have dialogue with local leadership providing training on our projects so that we sing from the same hymn book,” highlighted gender officer Kudzai Parutu.

Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Chimanimani District officer Rudo Marange (pictured below) reiterated that her ministry had made significant strides in promoting women rights and empowerment. She said despite these efforts women and girls in Zimbabwe continue to face significant challenges including limited access to education, healthcare and economic opportunities.

“The Government of Zimbabwe recognizes that women empowerment is not just the right thing to do but is the critical ingredient in the fight against extreme poverty, illiteracy, hunger and malnutrition, as such, it has made several notable achievements in empowering rural women in order to address these challenges.

“Our Ministry is providing awareness and training to women on climate change mitigation and adaptation and this is key in building resilience to climate change. We must work to dismantle the systemic barriers that prevent women and girls from achieving their full potential and create opportunities for them to participate fully in all aspects of society,” Marange said.

TSURO Trust’s has pledged to continue using sports and other innovative approaches to promote gender equality, challenge patriarchal norms and inspire women to reach their full potential.

The success of the belated International Women’s Day event has left a lasting impact on the community of Bumba, inspiring a new wave of women’s empowerment initiatives and solidifying TSURO Trust’s position as a leading advocate for gender equality and sustainable development in Zimbabwe.
