A haulage truck driver together with his assistant were on Saturday morning robbed of US$600 and US$1 202 worth of goods by six unknown men after their truck developed a mechanical fault at the Mufusire uphill towards Headlands.
Manicaland Police acting spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed that Taurai Makaza (37) of Mutake Village, Domboshava together with his assistant driver Austin Muchekwa (29) both employed by Steel Partners were in the company of Tawanda Borimani (24) who is also employed by the same company as driver when the unfortunate incident occurred.
“At Mufusire uphill the truck developed a mechanical fault and Makaza stopped the vehicle. He saw six men running towards his truck and when they arrived, they smashed the right and left windows of the vehicle and Makaza was hit on the head with a stone.
“The suspects forcibly opened the doors of the haulage truck and entered armed with an Okapi knife. They demanded cash from the three men,” said Ass Insp Chinyoka.
Makaza surrendered his US$120, satchel, power bank and blankets while Muchekwa also grudgingly surrendered his US$480, plus a satchel and Tawanda Borimani handed over his US$40 and a satchel.
Ass Insp Chinyoka said the six robbers went on to offload two metal doors and 20×1.2 bullnose iron sheets from the trailer.
While at it Muchekwa pulled out an iron bar and the suspects fled from the truck. They reported the case at Headlands police station and no arrests nor recoveries have been made so far.
