MASVINGO-A trigger happy armed robber Daniel Munyanyi (50) who allegedly gunned down two detectives in Zaka on March 1, is the same person who shot and robbed Masvingo Urban ward 8 councillor Richard Musekiwa.

Munyanyi of Chief Ndanga area in Zaka, is believed to be part of a gang that attacked Musekiwa at his house in Rujeko C suburb on February 13.
In a telephone interview with The Midweek Watch, Cllr Musekiwa confirmed that Munyanyi was one of the robbers who shot him during the attack.
Musekiwa said the incident occurred in the early hours of the 13th of February when he heard suspicious noises outside his house shortly before 1am.
“I heard some sounds outside the house and switched on the floodlights before checking my vehicles. When I moved around the house, I noticed three men hiding near the sink area and realised they were robbers,” he said.
“I screamed and rushed back into the house. They chased after me. I failed to lock the screen door but managed to lock the glass sliding door. They tried to open the lock but when they realised it was glass, they broke it.”
Musekiwa said he ran into his main bedroom while the robbers forced their way into the house.
“I quickly called the police for help and also contacted a friend who went to the Rujeko Police Base,” he said.
According to Musekiwa, the robbers eventually broke into his bedroom.
“They shot a bullet through the back of the door where I was standing and the bullet hit me in the abdomen. They ordered me and my wife to lie down and choked us while demanding money,” he said.
Musekiwa said he tried to delay the robbers by telling them the money was at his shop, hoping police would arrive in time but they arrived when the robbers had fled the scene.
However, the gang searched the house and took a laptop, three cellphones and car keys before attempting to steal his vehicle.
“I fought hard with the robbers but they managed to leave with the laptop and three phones,” he said.
Musekiwa said that while the robbers were still rummaging through the house, he managed to sneak outside and began to scare away the robbers by throwing stones onto the roof, forcing them to flee by jumping over the durawall.
He later sought medical treatment where he was operated on and a bullet was removed from his stomach by a Dr Zvekare at Royal Family Clinic.
Musekiwa said after the recent arrest of Munyanyi in Zaka, he was able to identify him as the man who shot him.
“CID officers questioned him and he admitted that he was the one who shot me and stole my gadgets to the detectives,” Musekiwa said.
Musekiwa said the Police have since recovered the stolen laptop and one cellphone which had reportedly been sold at Mucheke Rank, while investigations are continuing to recover the remaining two phones.
Masvingo Province deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu said he was not aware of the developments.
Musekiwa confirmed that he is still recovering from the injuries sustained during the heinous attack.
