Good Samaritan, Principal Correctional Officer Masimba Mandimutsira was fatally struck by a Ford Ranger being driven by Chief Superintendent Simangaliso Dube while trying to save CIO Officer in Charge Gutu District, Gift Nyama, who had been involved in an accident.

The accident happened on May 21 at around 6pm at the 22km peg along Mutare Road, 500m from Mutimurefu Prison Farm bus stop which is fast becoming a black spot as more than four fatal accidents have been witnessed this year.
The incident was confirmed by Superintendent FZ Makonese, Officer in Charge Mutimurefu Prison Farm in a memo in possession of The Midweek Watch.
DIO Nyama, died on 21 May 2025 at around 18:00 hours in a road traffic accident at the 22km peg near Mutimurefu Prisons Complex along the Mutare–Masvingo Highway.

Nyama was reportedly driving from Gutu towards Masvingo after a farewell party with his colleague, Johannes Tafirenyika.
Tragically, his vehicle hit a stationary tractor which was in the middle of the road.
Just after the accident, residents from Mutimurefu, including officers, quickly responded to assist the victims at the scene.
Tragically, while they were providing aid, a Ford Ranger belonging to Masvingo DISPOL Dube rammed into the Good Samaritans hitting Mandimutsira in the process.
Mandimutsira was rushed to Masvingo Provincial Hospital, where he received medical attention but was pronounced dead at around 19:30hrs.
“As Mutimurefu we are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our sincerest condolences to the officer’s family and colleagues,” wrote Makonese.
A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accidents is currently underway.
Masvingo Province ZRP spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa referred all questions to national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi who was not picking up his mobile phone until the time of posting the story.
