TONGOGARA-Armed robbers ransacked and robbed a Tongogara couple cash US$1 920 and ZW$82 900 on February 8 this year at around 9pm, The Midweek Watch can reveal.
Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed and said they are appealing for information leading to the arrest of the armed robbers.
“We are appealing to members of the public who might have information that might lead to the arrest of the culprits to approach any nearest Police station.” Said Mahoko.
According to Police investigations, the complainants, Lawrence Musvibe (43) of Togarepi Village under chief Banga in Shurugwi and his wife Lisa Manenji ( 38) were in their kitchen hut preparing super.
They were approached by four unknown men who entered their kitchen with black masks and armed with machetes, a riffle and a log.
The suspects demanded cash from the couple resulting in Musvibe handing over ZWL$500-00 which was in his pocket. However one of the suspects turned to Manenji and started to hit her with a log demanding more cash.
The complainants were assaulted using machetes and a log and for fear of their lives, Manenji went to the bedroom took US$1 920Â and ZW$82 900 more and gave it to the suspects.
They went on to ransack the whole house and took two cell phones and two solar lights before disappearing into the dark.
The matter was reported to the Police who then attended the scene as the complainants were referred to Shurugwi District Hospital where they were treated and discharged.
