MIDWEEK REPORTER

ZVISHAVANE- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Zvishavane has revealed shocking statistics where juvenile rape cases are more prevalent in the mining town.

This was revealed by Gladness Tariro Hove of ZRP Zvishavane Victim Friendly Unit (VFU) during a stakeholders meeting held at Runde Lodge on Tuesday.

It was a stakeholder’s meeting where Bethany Project was addressing its new BRIC- Zim program which they are in partnership with Oxfam to deal with issues that has to do with protection and gender based violence was a topical issue.

Bethany Project’s Programs Officer Tatenda Rukanda revealed that they have the facilities to support those who have been violated sexually.

Hove said, “toddlers are more assaulted sexually and they range from three months up to 18 months. We currently have a case of a three months old baby who was raped and the case is still under investigation which shows that toddlers are more vulnerable to sexual assault as well just like any other victim “.

It was also revealed during this meeting that men do report cases of domestic abuse or violence to the Police as most of them seek to find solutions to their marital problems than making the matters public.

During the meeting it also came that cases of marital rape are going on unreported as couples prefer to solve them amongst themselves than to involve the law enforcement agency
