Toddler killed in hit and run

Kwekwe – A 4-year-old boy was killed, while his father suffered a fractured leg and is currently receiving treatment at Kwekwe General Hospital following a hit-and-run accident in the Kwekwe Central Business District.

Midlands Province ZRP spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.

The incident occurred on December 31, 2024.

According to the Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the incident took place when Vitalis Mpofu, 35, and his son, Tinotenda Gonese, were standing at the Senderayi roundabout, waiting for a passing haulage truck.

“The rear right wheels of the trailer encroached on the area where the two were standing and ran over them,” said Insp Mahoko .

Tinotenda was crushed on the head and died at the scene.

The haulage truck driver, however, failed to stop after the accident.

The police are now appealing to the public for any information that could assist in identifying and locating the driver, as well as the truck involved in the incident.
