✓Don’t cross flooded rivers or streams
✓ Don’t attempt to cross rivers or streams at night
✓ During thunderstorm (lightning) please remember these÷
- Don’t seek shelter under trees
- Don’t be too close to fences and other metal objects
- Thatched huts (Kitchen) have too many metal objects avoid it.
d) Avoid water bodies eg dams, rivers etc they are good lightning conductors
e) Avoid walking or running in open areas (mapani) in which you are the tallest object you will be lightning target
f) Don’t be too close to cattle when herding during lightning for mombe are very good conductors of lightning.
✓Never let primary school students who cross rivers or streams go unaccompanied to or from school.
✓ Lorry or tractor should be avoided during lightning
✓Any bridge submerged should never be crossed
✓Dont fish or do gardening in areas which can be flooded eg Mutirikwe River
✓Passengers in buses or any transport never encourage the driver to cross flooded rivers or streams
✓Dont pasture your livestock across rivers which quickly get flooded

One good about flooded rivers as a result of heavy rains the water quickly subsides…. patience saves life. Be responsible. In Shona we say “Gunguo zvarakatya mapapata aro mangani”.
