‘The die and get recognition mentality’ should end!

Date:

By Cuthbert Mashoko

My heart bleeds in pain when l see people singing sweet melodies and giving high sounding speeches at graveyards in honor of the departed, whom they failed to appreciate when they were alive.

Agripa Tivarere aka Chiteretere captured in South Africa during Cultural Exchange festival.

What benefit does that have to the dead? Why should we wait for death in order to celebrate and honor excellence?

Having been a resident of Mwenezi for five years now, l had watched in admiration the immense contribution of Agripa Tivarere aka Chiteretere to the arts industry. His name is now a household name in Mwenezi District and beyond, given his exploits which have send people wild at district and national gatherings.

Chiteretere through his vast unmatched talent, combines music, drama, poetry and dance to portray the unique, diverse cultural heritage of the people of Mwenezi and Zimbabwe at large.

Through well crafted acts Chiteretere has mesmerized the audience at each and every event he has graced, leaving the audience yelling for more.

Close to Chiteretere’ die hard love for the arts is love for his country. His unparalleled patriotism, is evidenced in his polished acts which portray Zimbabwe’s struggle for Independence, unity and patriotism. It is this which has made Chiteretere a darling of events organisers and a preferred edutainment arsenal at district and national events.

Of late, Chiteretere has been spreading his tentacles on the regional front. ln July he flew the Zimbabwean flag high at the South-African culture exchange festival in Venda. His invitation to this colourful Regional event serves as a testimony to an enlarged sphere of influence.

With due respect……l feel it is hightime that this illustrious son of Mwenezi deserves to be honored well before the eyes of Sir Wicknell or Dr Tungwarara catch up with him, let it be the people of Mwenezi first. Charity begins at home. Chiteretere deserves better, or is he another case of a prophet not having respect in his home area? This is just food for thought!
