MASVINGO–A road traffic accident claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy, Akeem Maziva, on June 22 around 2PM at Village Chipumho under Chief Nyajena, after a donkey-drawn scotch cart he was operating hit a rock and overturned.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Masvingo Provincial Spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the incident to The Mid-week Watch.
Maziva was reportedly on his way to collect firewood when the cart he was driving along an unnamed dust road struck a rock and overturned.
The impact caused the cart to overturn, fatally injuring the teenager, he sustained serious head injuries and bruises on all his legs and died on the spot.
His next of kin have since been informed.
Inspector Dhewa urged members of the public to exercise caution when using animal-drawn vehicles, especially on uneven and poorly maintained rural roads.
