MASVINGO- As the clock inches closer to the crunch mid-year harmonized elections, Masvingo Urban ward 4 councillor Aleck Tabe is not sleeping on his laurels as he is in the trenches engaging residents and canvassing for support.
Tabe has set his sights on retaining the seat at any cost and is not leaving anything to chance with a number of projects that he promised the residents in 2022 coming to fruition.
“I will not leave anything to chance in my quest to be back at the Civic Centre and all the projects that I promised the electorate will be implemented before the next elections,” said Tabe who is in Council on Citizens Coalition for Change ticket led by Nelson Chamisa.
Tabe recently held a community engagement and feedback meeting at Runyararo Primary School where residents in ward 4 were invited to engage with the him where they aired their concerns as residents.
Tabe has since established social soccer team called Yellow Stars FC which he has provided with a full kit including balls and shooters and has since been sponsoring all their games as a way to fight and eradicate drug and substance abuse among the youths in his ward.
To fight the city’s perennial erratic water supply in his ward he has relayed water pipes for residents in Second and Third streets in Aphiri area
There had been no water supply in the area for the past four years due to burst pipes and vandalism.
On February 26 Tabe drilled a borehole in the KMP Phase 2 area to address water challenges faced by the residents since the suburb was created years back.
Tabe told The Midweek Watch said it was necessary for elected officials to frequently go back to the residents to get their concerns and give feedback as well and fulfill the election promises.
“I was elected councilor for ward 4 during 2022 by-elections held in March and my pledge has and will always be that during these uncertain times, my preoccupation is to be the voice of my community so that we can achieve our shared goals. Whether you voted or will vote for me in the coming elections I want you to know that I am dedicated to serving my residents of ward 4.
“We are running around doing various projects like fighting against drug abuse and empowering youths and women and improve availability of water to the residents. I am running for the local authority seat again this year and I believe the residents have seen what I am capable of doing and will know where to put their X,” said Tabe.
