It was a sweet revenge for on fire Masvingo Utd aka Una Una when they floored their noisy neighbors FC Wangu Mazodze 1-0 today at Mucheke Stadium in the much anticipated derby.
Since the formation of Zhalala Zhululu in 2022, they have been enjoying the bragging rights having defeated Una Una twice with other results being draws and this victory could not have come at a better time.
The winning goal was scored by Keith Mavhunga in the 23rd minute of the game, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. The match was electric, with thousands of fans packing the stadium to witness the two teams clash.
The game’s excitement was palpable from the onset, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Mavhunga’s goal came after a well-executed pass from his teammate, which he skillfully converted into the net. Just four minutes later, Tende thought he had doubled his team’s lead, but the goal was disallowed due to offside.
The attendance was notable, with businessman Thulani Sibanda of Absolute Security Company, one of Masvingo United’s sponsors, in attendance. The turnout was one of the largest seen at the stadium in recent years, showcasing the immense popularity of the derby.

Masvingo United FC’s coach expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance.

With this win, Masvingo United FC strengthens its position in the league, while Wangu Mazodze FC will look to regroup and bounce back in their next assignment.
Una Una have 33 points now, one shy of second placed Tenax FC.
