Eriya Svuvuka, (31) from Mahachi village in Mwenezi, has been sentenced to 9 years in prison for stock theft. Masvingo province police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident, which occurred on February 8, 2025, at around 2200 hours.

According to Dhewa, Svuvuka went to Chikosi village, under Chief Chitanga, and stole two cattle from Tynos Dematema’s kraal. He tied the cattle to a yoke and took them to Zinaka village, where he left them, promising to return. However, the owner of the cattle followed the footprints and found his stolen cattle and identified them by a mark on the ear, FX67.
Svuvuka was arrested on February 10, 2025, at around 2130 hours, after a police tip-off. He appeared at the Triangle Magistrate Court and was sentenced to 9 years in prison. The stolen cattle, valued at $1000, were recovered, and the owner was able to identify them thanks to the distinctive mark.
Inspector Dhewa encouraged all farmers to put marks on their cattle for easy identification, emphasizing the importance of taking proactive measures to prevent stock theft.
