GOKWE-A Gokwe South homestead was on Friday turned into a crime scene after an 18-year-old stepmother allegedly strangled her three-year-old stepson and dumped his body in nearby bushes, in a case that has sent shockwaves across the district.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the arrest of Sharai Foromani (18) in connection with the death of Alvin Makore (3) at Village Madzura under Chief Sai.
Police allege that at around 10am, the toddler went behind the family homestead to relieve himself.
Investigators alleged that the suspect followed the child, carried him further into the bushes and strangled him before abandoning the body.
Alarm was raised when Alvin could not be located for some time.
His uncle, Dambudzo Machona (55), reportedly questioned the suspect about the child’s whereabouts but received no satisfactory response.
A search was subsequently launched, leading to the grim discovery of the boy’s lifeless body in a nearby bushy area.
Police said footprints allegedly linked to the suspect were observed at the scene.
The case is being investigated as murder as defined in Section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].
Inspector Mahoko warned against resorting to violence to resolve domestic disputes.
“Taking someone’s life is never the best solution to solving problems,” he said.
The motive behind the suspected killing remains unclear, but the brutal nature of the incident has left villagers reeling and renewed scrutiny on domestic tensions simmering behind closed doors.
