ZAKA – A dark cloud is hanging over St Antony’s High School in Zaka after a senior teacher and the school’s senior boarding mistress died one day after the other.

The school’s headmaster Joram Mawana confirmed the death to The Midweek Watch and said the whole school is still in shock and grief stricken after the double loss.

He said Clemence Chipato who was a senior teacher known for his reputation of being arguably the best ‘O’ level history teacher in Zaka district died on Thursday while the boarding mistress, Hellen Dungare was found dead in her room today.

The school’s senior master Kasiyani Kufakunesu said Chipato started teaching at St Antony’s in 1980 as a relief teacher before he went to the then Mkoba Teachers College now, Midlands State University from 1981 to 1983.

He re-joined St Antony’s as a qualified teacher in 1984 and made his name as one of the finest ‘O’ level History teachers who produced some of the best results in the district.

Kufakunesu said Chipato was on sick leave in April but was visibly fit before he was admitted at Musiso Hospital on Wednesday and his situation became worse and died on Thursday afternoon.

Kufakunesu further told The Midweek Watch that Dungare joined the school in 2010 as a security guard at the girl’s hostels.

She was promoted to senior girls boarding mistress in 2015 and served in that capacity until her untimely passing today.

The cause of her death had not been established by the time of posting the story.

Kufakunesu said the school is grief stricken and shocked by Dungare’s death as she spend the day talking to her workmates and colleagues as well as some of her relatives who confirmed that they last talked to her around 7pm yesterday.
