SHURUGWI- Officers stationed at Dorset police post in Shurugwi South Constituency are living in squalid conditions as the houses are not suitable for human habitation.

The development has prompted Shurugwi Officer -In -Charge Chief Inspector Hazvineyi Jindu to appeal to the local leadership for assistance to construct decent accommodation.
Speaking during a recent visit to the area, Jindu said the poor housing facilities posed a security threat to the area as police officers are shunning the place.
“If this situation remain unchanged, the area risk facing a shortage of police officers.
“I therefore urge the local leadership to take action and provide our officers with basic accommodation including decent ablution facilities and bathrooms,” she said.
Officers who prayed for anonymity described the living conditions at Dorset as embarrassing and deplorable.
They said the poor housing facilities at their post poses a security threat to the local community and give a bad image of the organisation which recently won the best stand at the just ended Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.
“We are living in squalid conditions. Our police base has developed cracks and broken windows. The roof is leaking and has cracks and we do not have toilets and bathrooms .
“This development has significantly impacted our morale and this has adversely affected staff shortage at the post,”he said.
He said the crumbling structure with rough floors is unsuitable for habitation posing health hazards like flue and other diseases.
The situation sparked criticism with local villagers blaming the ruling party, Zanu-PF for failing to provide proper accommodation facilities for the officers since the police post was established.
The villagers demanded immediate action from elected Zanu-PF officials including local councillor Mike Sibanda and the Shurugwi South Member of Parliament Wilson Mhuri.
