Elderly Woman Dies After Snake Bite in Gutu

MASVINGO-Eustinah Masanga (66) from Village Muganyura under Chief Serima in Gutu died after she was bitten by a snake while herding cattle near her homestead.
The incident occurred on the 13th of February at around 1000 hours when Masanga had gone out to herd cattle close to her home.
It is reported that she was bitten by a snake during the process. She was rushed to Serima Mission Hospital for medical attention but sadly passed away upon admission. Her body was put in the mortuary at the same hospital for a postmortem.
ZRP Masvingo province deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu urged members of the public to exercise caution, especially during the rainy season when snake encounters are more common.
He advised people to wear closed shoes when walking in areas with long grass.
