Silveira rules the roost again in Masvingo Diocese schools

MASVINGO- Silveria High continues to top all Roman Catholic Church run schools under Masvingo Diocese in the recently released ZIMSEC Ordinary Level results.  

Silveira High School scored 98.43% O Level pass rate for 2023 with 191 candidates and tops all 19 schools which fall under Masvingo Diocese, according to an analysis released by the Church’s education secretary Father Samson Mutsvangwa.

Though Silveria High’s pass rate witnessed a slight drop from 2022 academic year, the school had a pupil who had 12As 4Bs and 1C.

In 2021 the school was on poll position with a 96.90% pass rate, however in 2022 it played second fiddle with a 98.94 pass rate trailing behind Mukaro High which had recorded 98,95% pass rate.

 Tables turned in Silveria High’s favour in the 2023 academic year with Mukaro High School now on 2nd place with a 97.28% from its 183 candidates who sat for the O Level final exams.

Mukaro High has a pupil who attained 11As as the best student, 178 students passed 5 subjects and above meaning 5 students failed.

 The school is showing a steady rise in its pass rate since 2021, when it recorded a 94.2% pass rate,  for 2022  the school scored 98.95% and in 2023 the pass rate slumped to 97.28%.

St Anthony’s is on 3rd place with 259 candidates and the best student has 11As, and the school recorded 36 students who failed to obtain at least 5 subjects.

Their pass rate since 2021 shows a decrease in their students’ performance, 93.47% in 2021, 87.95 in 2022 and 86.1% for 2023.

The bottom three in Masvingo Diocese are Avhunga High with 15.2 percent pass rate from 46 candidates, Soti Source High 11 percent from 26 candidates and Nandi High 9.5 percent from 21 students.

 From the 46 candidates at Avhunga High the best had 3Bs and 3Cs as the highest score. Soti Source had their best student with 2As, 3Bs and 2Cs.

Nandi High, had a pupil with 1B and 5Cs as the  highest score.

 The three bottom schools have no students who obtained 5As and above.

“As the Responsible Authority we are very happy that most of our schools registered a rise in the pass rates while we congratulate all our schools that have done well in the 2023 ZIMSEC O-Level examinations, in a very special way we congratulate Silveira High, Mukaro High and St Anthony’s High Schools for their excellent performance.

 â€œWe register our sincere gratitude to the local responsible authorities of our schools, the school heads and their teams of highly dedicated staff.

“The results are testimony of solid teamwork, hard work and sacrifice being displayed by the teachers in our schools. Our strong encouragement goes to those schools whose results are not that pleasing especially those whose pass rates have gone down,’ said Rev Fr Mutsvanga
