Silobela shop owner kills man over cellphone

SILOBELA-A Silobela businessman is in hospital under Police guard after he allegedly fatally assaulted a man from the same area over missing cellphone.

According to the Police, Prince Mabhena of Dubeko (30) and his colleague only identified as Vee, approached Mlungisi Moyo who was seated at the door step of his shop.

They confronted him over a stolen cellphone and a misunderstanding ensued resulting in Vee stabbing Moyo twice on the shoulder with an unknown sharp object.

Moyo allegedly fled from the scene and later on went back to his shop to spend the night nursing his injuries.

At about 2am the following morning, Mabhena went after Moyo, got into his shop and caught up with him( Moyo). 

Moyo in self defence allegedly hit Mabhena using a brick and log which were near the shop’s door side. Mabhena fell to the ground and died on spot while the accused fled the scene.

The body of the deceased was seen by a passer-by around around 8am after he had seen the doors of the shop suspiciously open.

A report was made at Silobela Police Camp who attended the scene and Moyo was later apprehended and is admitted at Kwekwe Hospital where he is being treated under police guard.

The incident occurred last week on February 8, 2023 around 9pm at Mahlangu Business Centre in Silobela.

Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko  confirmed the incident.

“This case once again bears testimony to the adage that violence does not solve problems, it can only make the situation worse. May the public be warned accordingly.” Said Mahoko.
