MBERENGWA- Farisai Shoko (49) from Tagwirei Village under Chief Mataga in Mberengwa has been sentenced to 15 months in jail for slapping Jestina Mawisire (60) her lover’s wife.
However, the 15 months were commuted for 350 hours of community service to be done at Chamakudo Pre-school.
Shoko appeared before Mberengwa Magistrate, Mehluli Moyo last week facing charges of assaulting Mawisire of Dhibha Village under Chief Mataga with a wooden fence dropper leaving her with fractured hands and head injury.
Prosecuting, Ali Mutause told the court that on June 8, 2022 at around 10 pm, Mawisire arrived at Shoko’s homestead where her husband Vote Mawisire (56) was drinking beer with other patrons. She entered the house and started shouting at him accusing him of having love affairs with Shoko. She suddenly got out of the house and met Shoko in the yard and started shouting at her accusing her of having an affair with her husband.
This did not go down well with Shoko who tripled Mawisire from the back and she fell down. Shoko then picked a wooden fence dropper which was on her yard and used it to hit Mawisire several times all over the body. Mawisire woke up and tried to rush into the room where there were some beer patrons seeking for help but unfortunately she fell down at the door steps and became unconscious.
She was ferried to United Bulawayo Hospitals where she was medically examined. She sustained fractured hands and a deep cut on the head.
Shoko was sentenced to 15 months in prison of which five months were suspended for five years. The remaining 10 months were suspended on condition that she completes 350 hours of community service at Chamakudo Pre-school within a period of 10 weeks.
