GUTU-The rural community of Gutu was plunged into mourning following the drowning of two siblings in a stream.
The siblings drowned in Bunzi Stream in Village Dhibhamashava under Chief Chitsa.
Masvingo Province ZRP spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa told The Midweek Watch that on October 12, around 1400hrs, four siblings aged 13, 9, 7, and 6 went to swim in Bunzi stream.
Unfortunately Brightmore Mushandu (13) and Earnmore Mushandu (7) drowned in the stream during swimming.
In a desperate bid for help, the two surviving siblings rushed back to the village to alert the community who engaged in a rescue expedition for the missing children.
After an agonizing overnight search, the bodies of Brightmore and Earnmore were recovered on October 13 and they were ferried to Gutu Mission Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Dhewa urged parents and guardians to carefully monitor children and avoid leaving them near water bodies as they risk drowning.
