Shurugwi Town Council hails Nedbank Tour

SHURUGWI- Shurugwi Town Council (STC) has expressed excitement over its partnership with the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke, saying the event aligns with its mission to promote wellness, opportunity and community empowerment.

In an interview with The Midweek Watch,Shurugwi Town Council Chairman Councillor Fanwell Machiya said the council is proud to be part of such an important event that not only highlights the region’s economic potential but also supports disadvantaged learners.

“As Shurugwi Town Council, we are delighted to be part of this impressive event. With a spirit of innovation and inclusivity, the local authority chose to support and partner with cyclists.

“Cycling is not just a sport, it is a movement which promotes healthy living, environmental sustainability and community engagement.

“By supporting cyclists, we are investing in a culture of wellness, mobility and unity,” he said.

He said the local authority is focusing on infrastructure development, resource management and sustainable growth 

“Our vision as Shurugwi Town Council extends beyond mining.  We are a town on the rise, with vast land for housing and development and a youthful population eager to innovate and contribute. 

“With our scenic landscapes, cultural heritage and warm hospitality, we are also laying the groundwork for eco-tourism and adventure tourism.

“Our partnership with cyclists is a step towards greener transport, youth empowerment and more connected community,” he said.

He said the local authority was going to hold a Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund Gala with an aim to raise funds to be channeled towards charity.
