In a statement, the Midlands province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the fatal accident occurred at the 74km peg from Shurugwi around 4pm.

Insp Mahoko said the vehicle, which was being driven by Victor Muto of Makusha Township in Shurugwi, was heading towards Mandamabwe with five passengers on board when it veered off the road and overturned several times before landing on its roof.

“One passenger died on the spot, while four others sustained injuries and were rushed to Shurugwi District Hospital, where another victim later succumbed to the injuries upon admission,” Insp. Mahoko told The Midweek Watch.

The remaining three passengers were admitted in hospital and are in serious condition.

Insp. Mahoko said investigations into the cause of the accident are underway and urged motorists to exercise maximum caution and strictly adhere to road traffic rules and regulations.
