MBERENGWA-Aspiring Zanu PF MP for Mberengwa Central Tinashe ‘Goga’ Shumba has set his sights on easing Mberengwa’s perennial water woes once elected into Parliament on August 23 this year.

Mberengwa District is bedeviled with perennial water problems since time immemorial especially at business centres dotted around the vast district and Shumba has said he will focus on York Business Centre, Mberengwa Office and Turn Off in turning around the situation.

Last year Mberengwa District Development Coordinator, Vafios Hlavati told The Midweek Watch that they are working on a long term solution to alleviate the water problems in the district.

In some areas the precious liquid is sold for as much as US$ for 200litres as water supplied by ZINWA is very erratic and does not follow the set down timetable.

Many residents are walking about 10km to get water from business centres and industries where they get it for free like at Lizwe Mangena, Bamlo Investments, Magoche Investments.

Shumba, affectionately known as Goga has through Magoche Drilling Company in partnership Mberengwa Rural District Council pledged to sponsor the drilling of three boreholes at Mberengwa Centre and Yorks Business Centre.

“Three water points have been cited for borehole drilling at Mberengwa Center, the boreholes were supposed to have been drilled last Saturday but the council rig is being serviced.

“The boreholes are funded by our Zanu Pf  MP, Hon Tinashe Shumba, complimenting government efforts in combating the spread of cholera due to poor sanitation and water supply to the community. As for Manatsa Primary School and Yorks, the survey has been done once the council rig is serviced drilling will begin with Cde Goga providing fuel,” said Tarisai Shumba director of Magoche Borehole Drilling.

One borehole will be at council sub offices, Mberengwa centre, second one in Northwood location near Gamunorwa shops where a clinic would be built soon and the third one at Mberengwa rank.

Mberengwa RDC acting CEO Percy Mwedzi confirmed this to The Midweek Watch and said, Shumba has also provided fuel for road maintenance in Mberengwa Central.

“Yes, we have been assisted by Cde T Shumba to rehabilitate roads in the new Mberengwa Central Constituency. Our Council grader has been serviced hence we are now geared to partner Cde T Shumba who has also provided fuel for the drilling of boreholes at Mberengwa Centre to alleviate the current water challenges at Mberengwa Centre.

â€œThe borehole drilling programs are medium term solutions and in the long term we need to have a sustainable water solution for the Centre taking into account its massive growth,” remarked Mwedzi.

Daniel Muhwededzi, Mberengwa Residents Association chairperson welcomed the gesture and said he was grateful.

He said people like Shumba are very few to find as he has already started giving back to community using his personal resources. Muhwededzi added that by end of Shumba’s term of office, Mberengwa Central would be a different place altogether.

He added that the four solar powered boreholes and with ZINWA complimenting the situation be better for the residence.
