Bikita-Socialites in Bikita whatsapp groups have expressed shock following the death of Ward 13 Zanu Pf Councillor Elliot Chapinda who was found floating in a well at his homestead on Monday.
“We heard that he threw himself in the well after tying his neck with a rope and the police were alerted when a woman fetching water from the well tumbled on the body,” said the source.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi could not be reached for a comment as he was said to be in a series of meetings until the time of posting the story.
The councillor’s death is said to have been influenced by marital problems following his separation with his wife sometime ago.
The Bikita Rural District Council also confirmed the tragic news by issuing a condolence message.
“Councillor Chapinda served Ward 13 with dedication and unwavering commitment, leaving an indelible mark on our district. His absence will be deeply felt,” the council stated.
He was elected into council in 2023 during the harmonised elections.
