Shine Shine Queens FC fold

MASVINGO-The only women soccer team from Masvingo Province, Shine Shine Queens FC in the Women Super League has effectively collapsed as it can no longer fulfill fixtures due to lack of sponsorship.

The SS Queens have failed to fulfill their last two games due to lack of funds and if they fail to play their next game they would have kicked themselves from the elite women’s league in the country.

For the team to remain in the elite league they must fulfill their fixture against Borrow Jets FC of Bulawayo this weekend, a feat that is almost impossible considering the precarious financial situation they are in.

In an interview with The Midweek Watch SS Queens coach, Takaendesa Mavesere said they have since written to the league’s national executive informing them about their problems.

“Things are not well for the team and I am worried over the girl child as they had so much faith in us. As the coach I am willing to help them but there are no resources we will end up throwing in the towel.

We missed our last two games, one was against Faith Drive which was declared a walk over as we failed to go there because we didn’t have money for transport the game was a walkover.

“The next game we were the hosts, but failed to raise the US$145 for the match officials. We are incapacitated, we can’t even feed the team, something which is very embarrassing considering that we have so many well up people in the province. We have done our best and we can’t stretch beyond this and we have failed,” said Mavesere.

The team is currently anchoring the log table.
