The National Social Security Authority (NSSA) has appointed veteran medical practitioner Dr. Charles Shava as substantive General Manager/Chief Executive Officer, effective March 1, 2025.

This appointment underscores NSSA’s commitment to enhancing its governance and operational efficiency.
Dr. Shava, who has been serving as acting General Manager since July 2022, brings a wealth of experience in occupational medicine, public health, and social security delivery. His academic credentials include degrees in Medicine and Surgery, a Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health from Middlesex University London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Hygiene from the University of Manchester. He is also a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health UK (IOSH, UK).
“NSSA is poised for even greater heights under Dr. Shava’s leadership, his expertise in occupational safety and health, coupled with his experience in social security delivery, positions him well to drive our strategic objectives and continue delivering on our mandate,” said Dr. Emmanuel Anesu Fundira, NSSA Board Chairman.
As the largest institutional investor in Zimbabwe, NSSA plays a critical role in promoting economic productivity and job creation through its impact investment strategy. The Authority provides monthly social security benefits to over 250,000 beneficiaries and covers nearly 1.3 million active employees in the formal sector.
“Dr. Shava’s appointment is expected to further enhance NSSA’s ability to safeguard the long-term viability of its schemes and promote occupational safety and health in workplaces. With his leadership, NSSA is set to continue delivering on its promise of providing social security benefits and promoting economic productivity,” added Dr. Fundira.
