MASVINGO-A good Samaritan who was restraining a Serima conductor who was fighting to get his child from their grandmother was hit by a fist and died on the spot.
A violent dispute between a Serima conductor Atanus Mahaso (30) of Chiriga area and his mother in law turned deadly as he allegedly killed Darlington Matsveru, in Mundeiri Area on August 4 at around 6pm.

According to Masvingo Province ZRP spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, Mahaso went with his ex-girlfriend Cynthia Sani at her homestead to discuss his son’s welfare.
The altercation began when Mahaso’s mother-in-law told him to leave without his child, citing their ended affair.
As the situation escalated, Mahaso threatened to beat up his son, prompting Cynthia to intervene and lock herself and the child in a room. Darlington Matsveru (29) a passerby, attempted to mediate the dispute, urging Mahaso to leave peacefully. However, Mahaso’s anger boiled over, and he allegedly delivered a fatal blow to Matsveru’s left eye.
Matsveru fell onto a hard rock, bleeding profusely through the nose. He was rushed to Serima Mission Clinic where succumbed to his injuries upon admission. The incident was reported to the ZRP Chartsworth, leading to Mahaso’s arrest. The body was transferred to Serima Mission Clinic Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem.
“The unfortunate incident highlights the devastating consequences of unchecked anger and the importance of seeking peaceful resolutions to conflicts,” said Inspector Dhewa.
