Serial house breaker in court for 64 counts of theft

Gift Frank Hungwe (40) from Zvishavane has been arraigned in court for breaking into different houses and stealing groceries and properties.

Hungwe was remanded in prison to 29 September 2023 for continuation of trial.

He was not asked to plead to 64 counts of unlawful entry and theft when he appeared before Zvishavane Magistrate, Evia Matura.

The State said, Hungwe allegedly used an unknown object to break into the houses in Estlea, Zvishavane.

The prosecutor, Isheanopa Mashayanye told the court that on 26 June 2022 at house number 1145 Eastlea, Zvishavane, Hungwe unlawfully broke into  the house of Bruce Chingonono using an unknown object and stole an assortment of groceries including rice, sugar, cooking oil, salad cream, queen size mattress, carpet, gas tank, Kango pots and queen size duvets.

It is alleged that on 8 January 2023 at 1980 Estlea, the accused broke into Patricia Sibanda’s house and stole Coo kids bicycles.

The court heard that on 4 February 2023, Hungwe stole kitchen property including gas tank, set of Kango pots, two plate stove, kitchen knives and various groceries at Tapiwanashe Dhaidhai in Maglass after gaining entry using an unknown object.
