MASVINGO-The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) says it will continue with the school feeding programme in 2026 as part of efforts to ensure learners remain healthy and well nourished while receiving quality education.
Director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Taungana Ndoro said the initiative has had a positive impact particularly when combined with the Early Warning System (EWS), a tool used to identify and support learners at risk of dropping out due to factors like poor performance or socio- economic challenges.
“We are going to continue the school feeding programme to ensure that all our children are healthy as they receive quality education,” said Ndoro.
He added; “We are also happy about the positive impact we have noted from the Early Warning System which has shown an increase in the number of children who have been reintroduced or re-enrolled into our school system after dropping out. Thousands of learners have returned to school or avoided dropping out because of this system.”
Meanwhile, 2025 marked a key milestone in the implementation of the Heritage-Based Curriculum particularly in terms of assessment, Ndoro said.
He emphasized that 2026 will see the curriculum enter its final phase with most schools now adhering to its principles and goals.
