MWENEZI-Rutenga Primary School in Mwenezi District continues on a master piece upward trajectory as demonstrated by the school’s 2023 grade 7 results in the ZIMSEC examinations.
The school registered a stunning 91% pass rate. Out of 155 candidates who set for the exams, 142 passed. Fifty-four candidates had quality results as they had units between six and twelve.

Rutenga Primary head, Tenson Mukapa paid tribute to his staff and the school development committee for a job well done.
Since 2017 Rutenga Primary had been scoring pass rates above 90%. It is this superb performance which has turned the school into an educational giant, not only in Mwenezi District but also in Masvingo Province.
Apart from its educational prowess the school had been a beacon of excellence in Infrastructural development. Worth noting is the state of the art administration block at the school, modern classroom blocks, the fish pond and the palisade fence.
A borehole has anchored the “green revolution” project, which has turned the school into a ‘Tropical Africa’.
The borehole supported by the towering 2×5000 L Jojo tanks, has afforded the school 24 hours of uninterrupted portable clean water supply.
A move which has enhanced the school’s drive in fighting communicable diseases.
More so, the water project has brought relief to the community in times of water blues.

A variety of flourishing projects at Rutenga Primary, which range from chick rearing, fishery, vegetable garden and waste management resonate with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s 5:0 thrust, which emphasizes on the commercialisation of schools.
Education 5:0 challenges schools to be innovation hubs as they embark on projects that raise funds for the school.
The projects at Rutenga Primary are key in fund raising as the school moves away from the tradition of solely relying on fees in running its business.
On the other hand, the projects which are mannered by learners have facilitated impacting life skills in learners through hands on approach and equipping learners with entrepreneurship skills at a tender age.
With all these developments at Rutenga Primary, one would be forgiven to conclude that “Rutenga primary is the school”, however, for the man at the helm, Mukapa, a lot still needs to be done.
His vision is to attain a 100% pass rate and to continue with the modernisation drive at the school by construction multistory classroom blocks since the school is slowly running short of land.
