MILLICENT HUNGWE
It was all celebrations at Rujeko Primary School as the long-awaited 77-seater school bus arrived at the school amid cheers and ululations from teachers, students and parents.
The purchase of the bus marks a huge milestone for the Masvingo City Council run school as it will go a long way in easing transport woes for the learners.
The chairperson of the School Development Committee (SDC) Patience Mapfumo expressed her joy and gratitude.
“This is one of the biggest projects we’ve ever achieved, our school, which has helped give birth to other schools, can now proudly say it has its own 77-seater bus.”
The Deputy Head Martin Mhare also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all parents, teachers, and the procurement committee whose efforts made the arrival of the bus possible.
He extended special thanks to the Ministry of Education for their continued support, which enabled the school to achieve such a remarkable milestone.
With joy, he noted that the students were now being proudly driven in their very own bus, fondly in the “Asiastar bus.”
“It is their bus,” he said passionately, “and they deserve to be happy, they deserve to be driven through the area with pride.”
“We also invite those who may want to hire the bus to contact us, this will help us generate income for further school development,” he added.
As the bus roared through Rujeko, its horn echoed with a bold sound, a triumphant symbol of progress and unity.
“This is a dream come true,” said Patience Sibanda a parent.
“We faced difficulties in paying fees for our kids, but today we are seeing the results of our sacrifice,” she added.
The new bus is expected to bring great change to the school, providing safe and reliable transport for students attending sports events, educational trips, and other important activities.
