HARARE-Veteran educationist Aquanos Mazhunga received royal welcome as he entered the premises of his new station, Churchill High School in Harare.

Churchill High is one of the best Government schools in the country and Mazhunga was warmly welcomed as the new head by the school’s pipe band while in the company of the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Torerayi Moyo.
The band lined up the entrance of the school while crooning soft music as Mazhunga and Minister Moyo made the grand entry until they sat down among the dignitaries who included his wife Drasia Mazhunga, the ministry’s chief director Madam Kaira and Harare Provincial Education Director, Joram Mupunza.
Also in attendance was the ministry’s director of communications and advocacy Taungana Ndoro, Harare Metropolitan Northern Central District Schools Inspector Mr Mafukidze, all school head in the district and parents.

Mazhunga was the head at Gokomere High School until December 2023 and joined Epworth High the following year and in 2025 is now at the iconic Churchill.
Churchill, which was founded in 1950 in Eastlea Harare, has an enrollment of over 1 500 learners, some are day scholars while the majority are boarders.
“I was humbled by the welcome, it was colourful and the presents of the Minister spiced up everything. The Minister spent the whole day at the school and took time to visit classes and attending lessons as well.
“I will live up to the task and pay back the confidence the ministry has in me,” said Mazhunga who was bubbling with confidence.
The school is famed for producing some of the best footballers and cricketers in the country and is the pioneer of piped band in schools.
Cricketers like Elton Chigumbura, Alester Maregwede, Douglas Hondo, Prosper Utseya, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Tinashe Panyangara, and Chamu Chibha and in football the likes of Samson Choruwa, Eddie Mashiri, Norman Maroto and Cephas Chimedza passed through the gates of Churchill.
