ZVISHAVANE – Mandava residents are living in fear of death as houses are breaking through the middle due to the rains that have pounded the country in the past two weeks.

The houses popularly known as Majaradha yesterday cracked last and this year as well and the authorities have not done anything to alleviate the plight of the residents.

The houses are under Zvishavane Town Council which at one time attempted to repair, but the work was left unfinished.

The situation continues to deteriorate with each rain season as nothing is being, residents have told The Midweek Watch.

One resident Tafadzwa Shumba said the local authority should act as a matter of urgency and use devolution funds to repair the cracked houses.

“It is sad that the building started cracking last year but nothing was done now it has come to the worst we are now living in fear as the houses may collapse on us any time, the council should quickly take action as we have had enough of this,” she said.

Former Provincial Minister of State for the Midlands Province, Larry Mavhima commissioned one building and since then nothing is moving and residents are now living like squatters.

Zvishavane Original Residents Association Chairperson Kamino Simango said swift action should be taken to rectify the dire situation that the residents find themselves in due to negligence by the Council.
