…as developer embarks on massive roads construction

MIDWEEK REPORTER

CHIREDZI-Arguably the biggest indigenous owned housing developer in the country, Shineplus Housing Development Trust has embarked on an ambitious roads construction in Chiredzi’s medium and low density suburb of Shineplus Park.

The housing developer is set to complete the feeder roads in the suburb and the main road, Shineplus Drive which is 3.5km long in the next two weeks.

All the new roads will be tarred to international standards as the country is now prone to frequent cyclones hence the need for durable infrastructure, Shineplus has indicated.

Chiredzi Town Chairman, Cllr Gibson Hwende was impressed by the work that Shineplus is doing in the sugarcane producing town which is the most economically active district in Masvingo Province.

The roads construction is being done in partnership with Chiredzi Town Council after having done the same in the development of over 500 stands in the suburb since 2018.

The project was affected by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which did not allow gatherings as the disease was at its peak.

Another major road that Shineplus is doing is the Chiredzi Drive which links Chiredzi CBD with the fast growing Shineplus Park.

“We are very excited with this development going into the rain season and the tarred road could not have come at a better time. Chiredzi Drive is going to decongest our roads as it allows free flow of traffic especially during peak hours in the morning and evening rush hour.

“The construction of infrastructure and shelter is one of the pillars of the National Development Strategy 1, so we are in the right direction as a town.

“This development will bring in a lot of investors once we have trafficable roads because this is what investors want, unfettered access to services through good roads,” said Cllr Hwende.

The Acting Chiredzi Town Secretary, Engineer Wesley Kauma also expressed satisfaction with progress at the Park since they embarked on a partnership with the housing developer.

“After the completion of the first phase which had over 500 stands and the surfacing of the roads we were quite impressed with Shineplus’ work. We had other land and instead of converting it into a low density suburb we approached Shineplus and they subdivided it into a medium density suburb which would accommodate more residents at affordable prices.

“Th subdividing of the stands has gone a long way in reducing the housing waiting list for the town.

“After a request by the residents for the tarring of the road so that the value of their stands also appreciates, we entered into an agreement with our partner Shineplus to tar the roads for the low density areas in order to meet their expectations.

“We expect this job to be completed this year all things being equal,” said Eng Kauma on the sidelines of Chiredzi Drive which was under construction recently.

Shineplus operations director, Charles Junior Mushinga is overseeing the massive project which is being completed in phases with the Chiredzi Drive and Shineplus Drive being set for official in the coming weeks.
