BIKITA-The People’s Republic of China through its China Medical 20th team has completed a one-day free medical outreach service for over 900 Bikita mine employees, families and the surrounding community.
The free clinic provided free diagnosis and treatment services for employees and local community residents in internal medicine, cardiology, general surgery, neurology, urology, neonatology, traditional Chinese medicine (acupuncture), radiology, and basic health care.
Speaking during the medical outreach, Bikita Minerals managing director, Zhenhua Want expressed excitement and appreciation to the 11 Chinese specialist doctors for the free treatment.
“We are excited to host the 20th batch of Chinese medical experts. Everyone here at Bikita is hardworking and truly deserve free professional medical services. I hope the free medical treatment will strengthen your bodies and healthy being”.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to announce plans to upgrade the company and community clinic. Construction works are to start soon, and this is the objective of Sino Mine to create a healthy Bikita,” said Wang.
Captain of the 20th China medical team to Zimbabwe, Ouyang Bin said his team is committed to saving lives and healing the wounded.
“This year marks the 60th anniversary of China’s medical aid to Zimbabwe, and medical aid has been passed down from generation to generation. We will continue to actively assist in the provision of health services for Chinese-funded institutions and overseas Chinese in Zimbabwe,” said Bin.
Alice Ganya (60) a subsistence farmer and one of the beneficiaries of the free medical outreach program from Bikita District was very excited and full of joy.
“I have suffered from back pain for the last eight years. Sometimes I treat it and there seems to be a relief,” she said.
“But it keeps coming back. It affects my farming activities because with this pain I cannot bend for long, so I have come here for treatment.”
“I thank the Chinese medical team and Bikita Minerals for extending free treatment to the community. I thank them for thinking about us. I trust that we shall heal. There are some people with different ailments and this outreach program is a welcome gesture,” she said.
The giant lithium miner constructed Shumbaimwe community clinic in 2022 and currently offers free ambulance services and a resident doctor to the community.
