REDCLIFF- The municipality of Redcliff is set to improve water supply to its residents following the separation of the power supply between Ziscosteel and the local authority.
Some parts of Redcliff had gone for a number of years without the precious liquid coming out of their taps and this development is going to improve the situation.
In a statement, the local authority said all the material needed for the separation of power have been availed and full payments have been made to the national power utility company ( zesa).
“ZETDC electricians are scheduled to be on the ground this coming Monday to complete the outstanding works .
“We sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation during this transition,” reads part of the statement.
The local authority said once all is finished, it will become independent in consuming power and will be able to supply water to Redcliff and Torwood suburbs which had gone dry for a number of years.
The local authority said it was going to continue with the installation of water meters on the two 450mm water supply mains.
In a statement, the local authority said its engineers together with those from Kwekwe City Council were working on the project advising residents that water supply may be temporarily interrupted during the installation period.
Redcliff has been facing water challenges for a number of years and has been relying on Kwekwe City Council for water supply.
The development resulted in Kwekwe municipality cutting water supply to the small mining town as a result of unpaid water bills.
A Redcliff resident, Takunda Manatsa applauded the local authority for being independent advising council to first have solutions to its water treatment plant before imposing prepaid water meters.
“We really appreciate the power separation development and this will surely improve water supply, however it is not a good idea to introduce prepaid water meters before investing in our water treatment plant,” he said
