MASVINGO-The Midweek Watch has gathered that the number of bodies found buried in Good Mine shaft in Stop Over area is now 52, not 32 as we reported last week.

A source close to the goings on said after assembling the skulls it was found that there were 52 bodies including some whites.

The bodies were found with some guns implying that the victims could have been killed during the liberation struggle and thrown into the disused mine shaft in the farm used to be owned by one Billy Chinoto.

The remains are kept at Masvingo Provincial Hospital mortuary awaiting further examinations.

A new owner prospecting for gold discovered the bodies and reported the case to the police who went on to exhume the remains last week.

“Detectives from Masvingo and forensic experts examined the bodies at Masvingo Provincial Hospital to establish the number of bodies, period and probable cause of death,” said the source.

Masvingo Provincial Hospital Medical Superintendent Noel Zulu confirmed that the examinations were concluded but referred all questions to National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi whose mobile phone went unanswered for several times until the time of posting the story.
