Recalled MPs back in the ring

MARTIN MAWAYA

GWERU-Recalled legislature for Mkoba North constituency, Amos Chibaya was today duly nominated to represent Citizens Coalition for Change CCC in  the forthcoming by-elections slated for February 3 next year.

Chibaya will battle it out with Democratic Official Party (DOP) candidate, Tayiya Patrick  and Edgar Ncube of (Zanu-PF).

The three successfully filed their nomination papers with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) at the Gweru Magistrates Courts.

The by-election follows the recall of Chibaya by self imposed CCC interim secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu.

However, CCC deputy spokesperson Ostallos Siziba told The Midweek Watch that all the “recalled legislatures have filed their nominations under the CCC ticket”.

Meanwhile, Tshabangu failed to field a candidate for Mkoba North constituency and ward 11 Gweru city council by-election.

It was not yet clear how Tshabangu will react to the nominations of the recalled CCC legislatures as the court has previously banned them to participate under the party ticket.

President Mnangagwa fixed the date for by-elections for the six vacancies created in the National Assembly following the recall of 18 CCC legislators.

The vacant seats include Pelandaba, Goromonzi South, Seke, Chegutu West, Zvimba East and Mkoba North.

Other PR legislators that were recalled include Emma Muzondiwa (Midlands proportional representative), Machirairwa Mugidho (Masvingo proportional representative), Constance Chihota (Mashonaland East proportional representative), Monica Mukwada (Manicaland proportional representative), Sekai Mungani (Midlands proportional representative), Linnet Mazingaidzo (Harare proportional representative) and Daphne Gutsa (Mashonaland East proportional representative).

Those recalled from the Senate are Webster Maondera, Jameson Timba and Vongai Tome, all from Harare, and Editor Matamisa and Ralph Magunje from Mashonaland West.

The polls will precede another round of by-elections held on the 9th of December where Zanu PF grabbed 7 out of 9 seats.
