When Mnangagwa declared that he won’t extend his term of office because he is a constitutionalist, did you believe him? If you believed him then you don’t understand Mnangagwa’s political lips.
Mnangagwa is very cunning like a fox. He always indicates right whilst turning left. Whenever he wants to make a political maneuver he first throws a joke, a political appetizer, a deco, a bait, too confusing strategic plans, etc.
Mnangagwa always act with a second option. A well thought plan B. Normally his plan B is his most preferred action.
After investing millions to destroy the opposition, Mnangagwa knows there is no organisation which can fight against the amendment to extend his term.
Mnangagwa pushed an agenda of 2030 as means to divert the attention of Zanu PF factions and opposition from his plan B.
Whilst all citizens were glued on the 2030 agenda Mnangagwa was busy destroying the structures of Zanu PF to create his personal organs of the party.
Mnangagwa knew he was old and would not have the energy to fight in 2030 so he was busy grooming his successor. The organs which he was busy creating were taking over Zanu PF and moving with the new anointed successor.
Mnangagwa as a lawyer knew how difficult it would be to amend the constitution. He is juggling with two plans.
Plan A is to extend his Presidential Term to 2030.To prepare this, as pointed out earlier Mnangagwa had to destroy the opposition. He knows now that he is in control of Parliament. Parliament is a bigger player in extension of Presidential term.
The other biggest stumbling block in the presidential term extension are the voters. Mnangagwa made sure he amend the PVO so that all civic organisation would have no cent to campaign against the amendment.
The opposition to quickly group, be united against the amendment will be a mammoth task or an impossible mission. Mnangagwa knows he is likely to have a majority vote for the amendment in a referendum. Mnangagwa is preparing this if plan B fails.
Plan B was to have a successor who will protect his wealthy and family interests. He has found Kudakwashe Tagwirei.
ZanuPF is going for congress in 2027. Kudakwashe Tagwirei is definitely taking over the party’s leadership. Mnangagwa first amended the Running mate clause of the constitution. Those gullible Chiwenga faction believed it was to protect their General. Mnangagwa has the power to hire and fire the Vice Presidents. After Congress Mnangagwa will have every reason to fire Chiwenga and Mohadi. The congress would have Zanu PF Vice President and Second Secretary as Kudakwashe Tagwirei and someone from former Zapu.
Mnangagwa would then make Kudakwashe Tagwirei the 2028 election Zanu PF Presidential candidate. Those who read Mnangagwa’s political lips are already understanding this. When reading his lips never forget his political actions.
It is not a surprise that Zanu PF Mps will move a motion to amend the constitution soon. This is to give Mnangagwa power of determination of the trajectory .The sympathy of Zanu PF supporters is also needed. Mnangagwa will be seen not as power hungry which will boast Kudakwashe Tagwirei’s vote in the party.
The whole political plots by Mnangagwa can only be halted if the opposition political parties start to mobilize against the 2030 agenda. The opposition and those Zanu PF who are against the amendment must mobilize before it is too late. The second option to stop the amendment will be Chiwenga blocking Mnangagwa’s preferred successor from taking over the party.
The success of Plan A or B is heavily linked to the success of one of the plans. A failure of one of the plans means failure of the other. The opposition and the “Anti- 2030 Agendists” can control the referendum .They must be prepared to go pound for pound with Mnangagwa faction. The greatest undoing in the opposition is the hatred, divisions, infiltration, untrustworthy etc.
