MASVINGO- Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) schools performed remarkably well in the 2023 ZIMSEC A Level exams by attaining 99,4% pass rate compared to 98.2 in 2022.
The schools are Pamushana, Makumbe, Nyashanu, Alheit Chingombe II, Zimuto, Chibi, Gutu, Jichidza and Morgenster.
The latest pass rate statistics produced by RCZ education secretary, Dr Julius Mutumburanzou show an upward trend positioning these schools as a shining example of success in the education sector.
In an interview with The Midweek Watch, Dr Mutumburanzou said he is on cloud nine over the results and extended his gratitude to the learners, parents, the church and teachers for their contributions towards achieving the remarkable results.
“As the secretary I am over the moon as the results are a clear testimony of hard work. It shows that the programs we are embarking on in the education sector are bearing fruits.
“I want to urge the parents to continue with their unwavering support. Qualitatively we have also gone up for example one of our top schools which had 187 candidates, 167 learners scored 10 points and above whereas another school which had 126 learners sitting, 97 had 10 points and above. This shows the quality of results being produced at our schools,” said Mutumburanzou.
According to the recently released results in our possession, seven schools namely; Zimuto, Chimombe II Alheit, Jichidza, Pamushana, Nyashanu, Makumbe and the day school Morgenster High had 100% pass rate while Gutu and Chibi recorded 98,1% and 96,88% respectively.
Zimuto had 87 candidates amongst them eight had 15 points and above, 30 learners had eight or more points in the sciences subjects while 31 learners had10 or more points in arts subjects.
As has become the tradition Pamushana had the largest number of learners at A level amongst the RCZ schools with 107 learners getting 15 points and above with 26 of them getting 20 or more points.
Commercial subjects had 63 learners with 10 plus points. In arts subjects 36 learners scored 10 points plus while science subjects had 73 candidates who came out with eight points and above.
Makumbe which also had 100% pass rate had 73 candidates who passed with two or more subjects. Amongst them 23 learners achieved 15 points and above while another 23 and 32 learners in commercials and sciences respectively scored eight points and above. In arts subjects 16 candidates had 10 or more points.
Nyashanu saw 42 male and 37 female learners and in sciences 20 males and 10 females had plus eight points. Whilst in arts and commercials a total of 25 learners scored 10 points and above. Those with 15 points and above were nine.
Qualitatively the non boarding school Morgenster had 16 candidates of which 11 obtained 10 points and above with two of them having 15 points while Chimombe II Alheit had 42 students amongst them four obtained 15 points and above
Gutu High had 167 candidates amongst them 92 had 10 points and above while 14 had 15 points and above. The best performing student had 25 points.
Chibi High recorded 96,88% pass rate and one learner who passed one subject out of 126. However, in commercial subjects all the 21 candidates had 10 plus points whilst 25 in the arts subjects also had 10 points and above. In sciences 33 females against 26 males had eight or more points.
