Zimbabwean footballer Khama Billiat, currently playing for Scottland FC in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, is reportedly dealing with financial struggles that could see him lose assets in South Africa due to an outstanding debt of approximately R400,000.
The former Kaizer Chiefs forward allegedly owes Standard Bank around R372,066. Efforts to serve him with a summons from the Johannesburg High Court have so far been unsuccessful, as he is no longer residing in South Africa.
The financial obligation originates from an overdraft credit facility granted to him in 2020. Although Billiat made his last recorded payment in 2023, he was expected to pay monthly instalments ranging from R80,000 to R90,000.
His failure to maintain payments has resulted in legal action.
Attempts to reach Billiat’s representatives for comment on the situation were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
Despite his financial troubles in South Africa, Billiat remains the top-earning player in Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League (ZPSL). After his tenure at Kaizer Chiefs, where he was among the highest-paid athletes in the DStv Premiership, he returned to Zimbabwe and signed with Yadah FC for the 2024 season.
During that period, he reportedly earned R95,500 (US$5,000) per month.
Following the expiration of his contract with Yadah FC in December 2024, Billiat joined Scottland FC, where he continues to command a high salary.
His current earnings are estimated at R108, 800 (US$6,000) per month, cementing his status as the best-paid player in Zimbabwean football. city press
