BIKITA- Prominent Bikita journalist, Brilliant Mukaro is intent on a new career as a politician and as has set his sights on being a councillor in Ward 13 Bikita District in Masvingo province.

The multi-talented veteran journalist will contest for the seat under the banner of the Democratic Alliance of Zimbabwe party.
In an interview with The Midweek Watch, the youthful journalist vowed to offer new innovative solutions to improve service delivery in Bikita.

“Once voted into office, I will push for policies that benefit Bikita residents not to serve self interests. My greatest concern is to boost youth representation in the local authority as you might be aware that the council is made up of old councillors who are easily duped by council management because they cannot read and write.
“My coming in will bring people centered policies. As DAZ, we will block self- enrichment policies like the issue of personal vehicles at the expense of service delivery.
“We will fight our biggest enemy which is corruption. I am not coming in council to grab residential stands or allowances but to represent my constituency,” he said.
Mukaro is a veteran journalist who has worked for The Mirror, The Midweek Watch and a freelance in both Zimbabwe and South Africa. He also served as the Bikita Residents and Ratepayers Association (BIRRA) Secretary General.
Mukaro on January 31, 2026 will battle for honours with Zanu PF’s Obvious Mudzigwa in a by-election which fell vacant following the death of Zanu PF Councillor Elliot Chapinda who committed suicide by hanging sometime last year.
