MASVINGO- Thursday night last week is a date most companies in Masvingo would not want to forget quickly as they paced up and down the podium collecting various awards in recognition for their resilience in this difficult operating environment.

Business executives, parastatal leaders and companies were awarded prizes ranging from Platinum, Diamond, Silver and Gold for steering their organizations to greater heights at the Megafest Business awards held at the imposing Urban Lifestyle Events arena in the leafy suburb of Morningside.

The biggest winner of the memorable night was Chivi Rural District Council which walked away with two platinum awards for the chief executive officer and the Council chairman.

Chivi RDC chairman, Cllr Godfrey Huruva Mukungunugwa who was still celebrating winning the Chivi North Constituency Zanu PF primary elections where he trounced incumbent, Mathias Tongofa, walked away the Pro-Development Leader of the Year.

Cllr Mukungunugwa’s award was befitting as it showed that indeed he was pro-development as testified by the number of projects he superintended in the arid district, most notably the sinking of boreholes and resuscitation of irrigation schemes.

His CEO, soft spoken Tariro Matavire was crowned the Chief Executive Officer of the Year among an array of councils and business organizations that competed for the coveted award.

“It feels good to be recognized for hard work, this could have not been possible without the team at the RDC and all the councilors who were very supportive of our programs.

“This is a result of team work pulling in the same direction, we will not stop because we have won awards, instead this will inspire us to do more,” said Cllr Mukungunugwa.

“We are very grateful as Chivi RDC for the honor that we received through the awards.  We are greatly motivated to do more. We give many thanks to Megafest Board and Staff for the awards.

“We have received several awards since 2010 from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works and other public boards. We will continue doing our best despite that our revenue base is very small.

“We are wholly communal with only small-scale mining activities. Our revenue is mostly from taxes and business licences,” said Matavire.

Masvingo City Council was not to be outdone as it walked away with two awards, Female Executive of the Year which went to the ancient city’s public relations officer, Ashleigh Jinjika and the Strategic Manager of the Year which was won by Town Clerk, Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa.

Multi award winner, Sternly Kondongwe of Byword Motors walked away the Strategic Manager of the Year while his organization was the Disruptive Organisation of the Year.

Noah Marima of Junior Driving School who ruled the roost last time won the Business Transformation of the Year while Junior High School was the Disruptive Organization of the Year.

Andrew Chekani who is the director of the biggest wholesaler in the Masvingo Province, N. Richards walked away the Director of the Year.
