…inspires upcoming talent

GWERU-Popular Disc Jockey, Handinahama Maphosa, affectionately known by the trademark name ‘DJ Hanti’, revels in inspiring young talent as he celebrates his 50th birthday and 27 years spinning the wheels entertaining multitudes of people.
Chronicling his career to The Midweek watch DJ Hanti said his musical journey has taken him thus far and all was through hard work and passion for his work.
Maphosa who once worked for Gweru based radio station 98.4FM in 2017 before retiring in 2018 said back then he ditched a hotel management job at the age of 27 for him to follow his passion for music.
He expressed his desire to grow young talent and will continue the journey and his intention is to hang his proverbial boots at 65 years of age.
“Working as a DJ is my passion and it’s something that was in me from a very young age.
“I am still feeling very energetic and if God grants me more years, I would like to retire at 65, the age most Zimbabwe professions recommend.
“it is my dream to nurture young talent so that the legacy lives on. I therefore urge young and upcoming DJs to remain focused so as to keep their professional journey long and fruitful
“Like always, as we cycle in the showbiz I just want to urge the young ones to be humble and behave well.The World is all theirs therefore there is no need to hurry because the sky is the limit, do your best at what you feel is right in your heart.” he said.
Maphosa said he tried to venture into some other professions but later realized that he was suffering from an identity crisis.
“I am a holder of a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree and I once worked as a manager in several organizations including hotels and restaurants here in Zimbabwe and in Botswana.
“I then realized that it’s not my calling. I felt my passion is in music where I drew inspiration from the likes of Tich Mataz (Tichaona Matambanadzo, former popular Radio 3 presenter) and Peter Jones back in the 1990s.
“I was later employed by Ishmael Pertker under Mahogany Disco music stable and it marked my journey as a professional Disc Jockey.” he said.
Among several clubs and entertainment joints ‘ DJ Hanti’ has played at Pabloz in Gweru, Bull and Bush in Botswana, and a number of leading joints in Harare.
Currently the local entertainment guru is working as a resident DJ at Milan Family Restaurant in Gweru.
Maphosa who hails from Shurugwi District, under Chief Nhema enrolled for his Primary education in Gweru at St Michaels Ascot .He proceeded for his high school education at Jameson High School in Kadoma
Maphosa is married and the couple is blessed with a son, three daughters and a grand daughter.
