MASVINGO CITY- In a notable advancement for local educational initiatives, Zanu PF Masvingo Urban Ward 7 Cllr Simbarashe Shonhiwa launched the Shonhiwa Community Legacy Scholarships Programme at Rujeko Hall.

This program features a donation of 25 scholarships specifically designed to aid disadvantaged learners. The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance academic empowerment and facilitate socio-economic mobility by promoting educational attainment among underprivileged learners.

Speaking at the launch Cllr Shonhiwa who is the executive director of the program said this aligns with the government’s devolution agenda, prioritizing grassroots development and human capital formation and also emphasized the importance of investing in education to transform the community.

“The objectives of this scholarship are clear: empower our youth, drive innovation, and build a brighter future for Rujeko, by supporting deserving students, promoting academic excellence, and fostering community involvement, we are contributing to President’s Vision 2030 and education 5.0. We are also tackling social issues like drug abuse and creating responsible citizens who will drive national development,” said Shonhiwa.

The launch was attended by government officials, education stakeholders, and community representatives, including Clorence Matewe, Deputy Director for Secondary Education Nowhere Hungwe, Masvingo province Zanu PF vice chairman, Trust Mugabe, Alderman Against Chiteme, Alderman Sengerayi Manyanga ward 10, and affiliates from Musicians 4ED, Good work 4ED, Senior Citizen 4ED, Vendors 4ED, and Partrotic Vendors 4ED.
Several schools were represented, including Rasa Private College, Rujeko Primary, Rujeko Secondary, Shakashe Primary, The Stem Academy, Berlin Academy, Vision Academy, Fern Valley Junior Academy, and Fern Valley High Academy.
The event also saw donations from Musicians 4ED, including exercise books, ball pens, and sick stuff. Shonhiwa also donated 16 soccer balls to all Masvingo urban schools, with each school receiving two balls.
